Chapped lips happen, and it is extremely annoying. Although most people associate chapped lips with winter, chapped lips can occur at any time, summer, spring, fall and winter. Chapped lips not only hurt, but they flake, they peel, they crack and they are less attractive to kiss than a toad (well… maybe that’s a little harsh). In any case, chapped lips are something we all want to avoid. And luckily we can, with lip care balm. Lip Balm, Lip Stick, Lip Gloss? Lip balm is not the same as lip stick or lip gloss. Although both lip stick and lip gloss have moisturizers built into them, their main purpose is to enhance the color and the state of the lips. Lip balm care, on the other hand, is made to soothe your lips, not make them red, pink or shiny. Lip balm care is also used by both men and women. When deciding if you want lip balm or lip gloss or lip stick, you need to think about what you are looking for- and keep in mind, you can use all three for that extra protected, extra glossy, extra red pout. Ingredients to Look For Lip balms are made out of a variety of different ingredients depending on the brand name and the overall effectiveness of them. Some of the ingredients that do the trick include bees wax, menthol, scented oils and camphor. Other ingredients to look for include oils such as vegetable oils (olive or almond oil), alum, salicylic acid and vitamins. Sun Screen Sheen Finally, the most important thing when looking for lip balm care is protection from the sun and the other harsh environmental factors such as cold and wind. Lips can get sunburned just like the rest of your skin. However, you don’t want to have to put sun block all over your lips. Yuck! Lip balm acts as sun block for your lips, without that disgusting sun screen taste. |
